Hey guys, 1st time post. I have been tring out the fusion learning edition and really liking it. I come from using mainly Adobe AFX and Premier in my day job making games. I am wanting to expand me freelance gig by adding SFX type work to my skillset. I can't decide if I should spend my money on a mac and a 500 dollar copy of Shake or Buy Fusion for my already existant PC hardware. Fusion would cost me about a grand more for the setup.
Can any of you give me advise on which setup would offer me the most flexibility and value for the money?
Will be doing mostly NTSC format work and some 1280x720
Thanks in advance
Craig

Shake is what I have and it will not only do the job you want it to well, but the skillset is marketable in the industry Smile

OK gang.

here is the current status. Shake is dead for future development. New app in 2008 is still a far way away.

Fusion is far superior in toolset and functionalilty and 3d with model import, UV's texture, fbx PARTICLES that are way cool.

Shake = NOT

the best thing about shake is the mac OSX platform.

as shake was THE tool to use several years ago, it is really limited to straight compositing instead of VFX creation. HOWEVER, for the price... it is a great tool to have. No doubt.

BUT since linux dev is gone forever, support is none, and the end of the ancient code from which it stood.. shake is as good as gone.

there will be a replacement in less than 2 years. And you can still use shake now. But ....

Fusion is on the rise and way more powerful. SO WHAT! just install xp sp2 on your mac under boot camp and through some extra drives in it. You can boot back and forth. Its worth it untill eyeon builds a osx port or apple finishes off its so called "flame killer"

We shall have to wait. but believe you me, in film and TV, eyeon is all over the place. Not as much as shake, but its in alot of places.

its a real time windows machine at that point. Boot camp is basically a system bios choosing the OS you want to load.

At boot you launch windows like a real PC. and it is exactly that.

runs great.
