Wow, the Thinking Particles tutorials are really great.
Just wanted to add though that in the motion inheritance part a PGroup node is added at one point to change the group from All to Up.... It took me quite some time to find out that there are two PGroup nodes, one in TP Standard and the other in TP Helper.
You need the one in TP Helper. The other one won't work. No idea why there are two with the same name, is there a reason for this?

EDIT: and then of course it is explained somehow in a later chapter. Still, if you don't follow it step by step and try to reconstruct like I did, you might go wrong.
